The Summer that went by…

We absolutely love the summer and it is during the summer that we realise that we made the best choice by moving to Southsea. So as the grey skies of the UK start to settle, I look back at the summer that just went by. (Very late post).

School was out. Maya finished primary school. We had proud moments that despite all the chaos, the kids are happy and doing well in school.

Then a special little boy turned 6 and had his first big birthday party. Having a summer birthday, school is normally out so we planned his birthday a few weeks before. Then had pancakes and breakfast in bed on his actual birthday. And he asked for a quill!

Then the UK had 5 heatwaves. This meant that there was no reason to get to the lush beaches of the Mediterranean as we were a 10 minute walk to Costa del Southsea! This was the first summer that the kids had zero hesitation in going into the water.

There was a lot of watching TV this summer but there was also a lot of sports… from tennis camp to football camp to swimming to running to cycling. Maya got her half marathon badge for our local Park Run.

As for me… I ran maybe 2 times this summer. But I did get new running shoes. I attribute my knee injury partly due to my last Asics Nimbus. I have decided that I really am not a big fan of the running world’s new thick soled running shoes! But I am one person. So I’ve gone back to basics and went back to my original faves – the Asics GT-2000. Probably best as I am re-training how to run again. I shall call these my ‘Re-Trainers.’ I also went swimming and managed to swim a 1 km in less than 40 mins (I have no measure to compare with).

We also had a bit of chaos as we didn’t have a place at our usual nursery for childcare and our back up childcare had fallen apart so I had to fly in the ultimate back up plan all the way from New York! My mom has been a great help and spoil not only the kids but the big kids as well.

We also had a quick catch up with all the cousins.

There was apple with peanut butter and apple with Nutella for breakfast.

There was girls shopping day.

My beautiful roses all bloomed (before the heatwave) but I also made the painful decision of re-homing my orchids in preparation for the move to Australia.

And again, in preparation for the big move, we re-decorated and painted the walls Sage.

Now as the temperatures cool down, I am exam-free, and the knee is feeling better… it may now be perfect time to put my re-trainers to good use. Do I dare train to run the Great South Run? Maybe I shouldn’t really. One of my bosses at work said something that sounded like a dare…

“It’s only 10 miles…”
